The Zodiac signs as Arcane characters

The premiere of Arcane Season 2, the hit show adapted from the game League of Legends, achieved many remarkable things. It proved that fandom culture isn’t dead, and that investing in high-caliber art is worth it (the production of both seasons cost approximately $250 million). But Arcane offered more than just beautiful visuals.

One of the show’s most highly praised elements—beyond its gorgeous animation, engaging plotlines, and astonishing attention to detail—is its meticulously crafted, well-rounded characters. Viewers of Arcane often emerge with strong opinions about certain characters. A prime example of this is the so-called “Jayce PFP War,” which occurred before the release of the final three episodes of Season 1 when fans fiercely debated whether Jayce Talis’ actions were justified or not.

I sometimes catch myself wanting to check the birth charts of these characters, only to remember they’re fictional and don’t have them. So today, I’m assigning each zodiac sign to a character that embodies that sign's energy—flaws and strengths included.

Aries: Vi

vi comic character from the arcane series

It shouldn’t surprise Arcane fans who are familiar with astrology that Vi exudes Aries energy. When we first meet her, she’s young, determined, and hot-headed. Aries, the cardinal fire sign, represents boldness and initiation—the first sign of the zodiac wheel. Vi embodies this energy perfectly.

In a pivotal conversation with Vander, he reminds her that the group looks up to her as their leader and that she can’t afford to be impulsive. Whether Vi wanted to be a leader or not, she became one—a role stripped from her only when she was imprisoned for years. Upon her return, Vi discovered that those she once led had grown independent to survive.

Aries traits fuel Vi’s leadership. She thrives in boldness and initiative and respects people who stand up to her. Blind loyalty makes her uneasy, as she still blames herself for her family’s tragedy. Her Aries spirit is both her greatest strength and the root of her struggles.

Taurus: Vander

vander from the arcane series

Vander is the epitome of Taurus energy. Once he makes a decision, he sticks to it—loyal, grounded, patient, and reliable. Known in his younger years as the “Hound of the Underground,” Vander was once a fierce fighter dreaming of liberating Zaun from Piltover. However, witnessing the suffering caused by war changed his perspective. He chose to prioritize safety and stability for his people, particularly his adopted daughters, Vi and Powder.

Vander’s grounded Taurus nature is evident in his role as a stabilizing force. He values patience, teaching his daughters to think before they act. Some fans argue that Vander abandoned his ideals by refusing to fight, but I disagree. Instead, he realized that Zaun is defined by its people, and their lives are worth more than war.

Vander’s Taurus strengths lie in his reliability and patience. His flaws, however, include his stubbornness and tendency to play it safe. His “ferocious will to live” was ultimately exploited by Singed, who transformed him into a monster.

Gemini: Councilor Kiramman

councilor kiramman from the arcane series

Finding a character that fully encapsulates Gemini energy was a challenge. If I had to choose, though, it would be Cassandra Kiramman. As a politician and one of Piltover’s most influential figures, Cassandra possesses intelligence, charm, and exceptional communication skills—traits very much in line with Gemini.

Her role as Jayce’s patron suggests that she knows how to foster connections and adapt to changing circumstances, which are key Gemini traits. However, her support comes with limits. When Jayce was expelled from school, she severed ties between him and Caitlyn, demonstrating her tendency to play it safe with relationships—a more superficial aspect of Gemini's energy.

Cassandra’s adaptability and social skills have likely helped her rise to power. On the negative side, she can be cautious to a fault, prioritizing optics over loyalty.

Cancer: Mel Medarda

mel medarda from the arcane series

Mel Medarda is one of the most intelligent characters in Arcane. Raised by her ruthless mother, Ambessa, she learned strategy, politics, and manipulation. Yet, Mel’s defining trait is her empathy—a quality her mother can’t stand.

Even Mel’s magical abilities reflect her Cancerian nature, as they connect her to others’ emotions. Her kindness is instinctive, but she also weaponizes it, using her understanding of people to manipulate them. Oftentimes she doesn’t even entirely realize she’s doing it. Cancer is often associated with the archetype of the mother, and despite not having children, Mel fits this role with the way she speaks to other people, even council members (she gifts a council member a child's toy in season 1 and she calls Jayce “a boy meddling with things he doesn’t understand.”)

Mel’s femininity, emotional intelligence, and maternal energy align her with Cancer.

Leo: Jinx

jinx from the arcane series

Jinx is pure Leo energy. Her theatrical nature, dramatic entrances, and long, flowing hair are only the beginning. Beneath her chaotic exterior, Jinx desperately craves validation—a hallmark of Leo. Mylo’s teasing wounded her deeply as a child because she needed to feel valued—both as a person and as an inventor.

Jinx’s artistic creativity is another reflection of Leo energy. She internalizes others’ perceptions of her to the extreme, even adopting the name “Jinx,” originally meant as an insult. In every universe, she loves being at the center of attention—a Leo trait through and through. Her desire for validation, coupled with her boundless creativity, makes Jinx an unmistakable Leo.

Virgo: Caitlyn Kiramman

caitlyn from the arcane series

Caitlyn embodies the perfectionism, diligence, and reliability often associated with Virgo. Despite her privileged upbringing, she chose to become an Enforcer, dedicating herself to serving the people. She takes pride in her sharpshooting skills and her ability to uncover corruption—a testament to her detail-oriented nature.

However, Caitlyn’s Virgo flaws sometimes surface. Her critical nature, combined with her privileged background, can blind her to the struggles of those in the Undercity. While her observational skills help her expose systemic injustice in Season 1, her desire to “fix” things goes too far in Season 2, leading her to harm innocent people and inadvertently empower Ambessa Medarda.

Caitlyn’s keen intellect and work ethic make her a classic Virgo, but her critical tendencies and blind spots reveal the sign’s less flattering traits.

Libra: Heimerdinger

heimerdinger from the arcane series

With his desire for peace, diplomatic nature, and fair treatment of those around him, Heimerdinger is a perfect embodiment of Libra. Intelligent and charming, he has earned great respect over the years for founding Piltover and his scientific achievements. However, his aversion to conflict led him to overlook the rising issues in Zaun and the corruption within the council. Heimerdinger's approach to justice was to maintain balance and avoid upsetting anyone, but this ultimately blinded him to the suffering occurring under his nose. While his theories were often correct—such as advising Jayce on the need for years of testing before using hextech—Heimerdinger failed to account for the impatience of those who don’t live as long as he does. In the end, his unwillingness to disrupt the status quo led to his removal from the council.

Scorpio: Silco

silco from the arcane series

Silco embodies the darker, obsessive, and controlling traits of Scorpio. His singular goal is to liberate the Undercity and establish Zaun as an independent nation, and he will do anything—no matter how ruthless—to achieve it.

Unlike Vander, who values life and stability, Silco embraces transformation, loss, and sacrifice in pursuit of his ideals. His disregard for human life stems from his obsession, and he believes the ends justify the means. His bond with Jinx —unhealthy, toxic, and codependent—is also very much in line with Scorpio’s intensity.

Sagittarius: Jayce

jayce from the arcane series

Jayce embodies the classic traits of a Sagittarius—optimism, impatience, and idealism. He is always looking for the bigger picture, dreaming of changing the world through his inventions, yet often failing to understand the harsh realities those around him face. His youthful idealism often blinds him to the struggles of others, which makes him seem out of touch with the people he’s trying to help.

Jayce’s luck and generosity are Sagittarian traits. He doesn’t haggle, always willing to give away more than he receives, as seen when characters like Ekko and Silco comment on it. His honesty is another hallmark of Sagittarius, especially evident when he confesses to breaking rules during his trial despite knowing it might cost him his position. Jayce is a truth-seeker, always chasing the answers to the mysteries of the Arcane, embodying Sagittarius’ philosophical and adventurous spirit.

Capricorn: Ambessa

ambessa from the arcane series

Ambessa Medarda is the perfect embodiment of Capricorn energy. Ambitious, persistent, organized, and controlling, she is an extremely calculated character with an eye for detail and power. Her intelligence and ruthlessness make her one of the most dangerous figures in Arcane, and her persistent drive is reflective of Capricorn’s determination to climb to the top, no matter the cost.

Ambessa’s tragic fate—dying at the hands of her own daughter—reflects Capricorn’s association with responsibility and karma. She pushed Mel to abandon her empathy, thinking ruthlessness was the only way to survive, only for her own actions to bring about her downfall. Her role as a stern, almost paternal figure to Mel and even Caitlyn further reflects the Capricorn archetype, as the "father" of the zodiac is often a guiding, but emotionally distant, presence.

Aquarius: Ekko

ekko from the arcane series

Ekko embodies many of the classic traits of Aquarius—humanitarianism, creativity, independence, and unconventionality. Like many characters in Arcane, Ekko has experienced tragedy, but instead of letting it consume him, he channels his pain into building a safe, supportive community for the people of the Undercity. His creativity shines through in his inventions, and his artistic side is evident in the murals he paints for the loved ones he’s lost.

Ekko is also highly intellectual and inventive, able to build a time-manipulation device with Powder, despite having no formal training. This shows his extraordinary independence and ingenuity, typical of an Aquarius. When given the chance to live in a perfect, alternate world, Ekko chooses to return to his own reality because he knows his community needs him. This selflessness and dedication to his people truly embody the Aquarius spirit.

Pisces: Viktor

viktor from the arcane series

Viktor’s character is a perfect match for Pisces, especially after the events of Season 2. Idealistic, intuitive, altruistic, and introverted, Viktor begins his journey as a man desperately trying to save his life. After merging with the Arcane and becoming a mage, he’s no longer threatened by his illness. Instead, he uses his newfound powers to try to "fix" the world by healing people. However, his idealism blinds him to the potential consequences of his actions.

Viktor’s desire to create a perfect world leads him down a dangerous path, as he begins removing humanity from those he deems imperfect. His arc mirrors Pisces' tendency to be so caught up in a vision of a better world that they fail to recognize the flaws in their own plans. He becomes a cult/religious leader in a way. In the end, Viktor needs someone—like Jayce—to ground him and remind him that it is our imperfections that make us human.
